... It's a Day of Gifts!

Those generous folks in the government are all about spoiling us today! Here we are just celebrating our tax rebate windfall when P brings in the mail and presents me with a letter from USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Service) requesting that I appear for my interview and biometrics.

We knew this was coming, but honestly, we didn't expect an appointment date until June. My appointment has been set for 5/15 at 2pm. We have to be in San Antonio for the pleasure though and you just KNOW it's going to be an all day affair don't you? Interview and fingerprinting and photo's etc. BUT... with a bit of luck, this will mean that my application is already being processed and I might actually get my new permanent residence card before my birthday! I have a client who is also an immigrant based on marriage... she is from the UK though, so it's kind of different... anyway, she arrived here a year before I did and she is STILL waiting for this step to be completed. Apparently she is at a very busy USCIS office because they sent her a letter saying that her application is being processed and that she should use the letter enclosed as proof of residency until her new card arrives.... a year later she's still waiting.

But not us... no... for us it appears we MIGHT just get the card sorted out soon, I will no longer be a permanent resident with conditions (which is a fantastic way of saying, "If your marriage actually lasts for 2 years"). With this new card they will be almost conceding defeat. It's their way of saying, "OK, you have jumped through every hoop, over every fire and under every raincloud that we've thrown at you... we're gonna give you a chance.... just one more year and you're free of us forever".

Woohoo!
