Total Dinner Score Tonight!
We're trying to keep costs down as much as possible because summer is coming up on us quickly, and the downside of Ps job is that he doesn't have work to do in the summer months. No work = no money. :(
Anyway, we're trying to be responsible about all this and so we're starting to cut back on spending and start paying extra close attention to stocking up on some food items to get us through the 2 income free months. In this same vain we're working out some low cost recipes using shelf stable items that we've been stockpiling the last little while.
On Friday we ate hotdogs using the throw away buns P brought home from work and some wieners we had in the freezer. Sunday I made some slow cooker pork which we made into pulled pork sandwiches. Today I took the leftover pork and added chili flavors, grabbed the leftover sausages and sliced them in half and whipped up a packet of 40c pizza dough (thanks Walmart!) and voila! Popped a wiener and a slap of chili into pizza dough circles, threw them in the oven and voila... chili dogs! They were totally yummy... and since we were about to throw out those leftovers, and the pizza dough is only 40c a packet tonight we ate for 20c a head!
We definitely need to buy a few more packs of that pizza dough. It's so versatile and at that price it's great to have on hand.
*Pic above is not tonight's dinner... didn't have a chance to take a pic... those are my failed (but still TOTALLY DELICIOUS) oatmeal crunchies. YUMMO!
